How old do I have to be to participate in a Gebirah Mission trip?

Participants must be at least 16 years old by the time of the trip to join without a guardian. Younger children may apply if accompanied by a guardian, subject to approval. While there is no upper age limit, please be aware that our trips can be physically demanding. Participants should be able to care for themselves throughout the mission.

I want to join a mission, but I don’t have the money.

If financial constraints are a concern, you might consider fundraising or seeking a sponsor. Many donors are eager to support our missions but cannot participate themselves. They may be willing to sponsor a missioner to represent them on the trip.

I’m not a Catholic. Can I still participate in a Gebirah Mission Trip?

Absolutely! While Gebirah Mission Trips are rooted in Catholic values and aim to both serve those in need and strengthen the faith of missioners, we welcome participants of all backgrounds. Missioners are invited to participate in group prayers and faith discussions, but there is no requirement to engage in exclusively Catholic practices (e.g., the rosary, Catholic Mass).

However, as our primary mission is to serve the Catholic community, Catholic applicants receive priority in trip placements. Non-Catholic participants will be placed if spots are available after Catholics have been assigned.

I want to make a financial contribution to Gebirah Missions. How can I do this?

To support Gebirah Missions, please make your cheque payable to “CHARIS HAF” and include "Gebirah" and the specific mission you wish to support in the memo line.

How do I apply for a mission trip?

Are Gebirah Mission trips safe?

Safety is a top priority for Gebirah Missions. We carefully assess and mitigate potential risks on all mission trips. In cases where safety concerns arise that we cannot adequately address, we will not hesitate to reroute or cancel a trip.

Here are some of the safety measures we have in place:

  • Collaboration with local religious orders, lay ministries, and Catholic clergy who are well-versed in the on-the-ground realities of the mission environment.

  • Registration of all mission groups with the Singapore Consulate in the destination country.

  • Comprehensive travel insurance for all participants, including live emergency assistance and access to qualified medical professionals both at home and abroad.

  • Mandatory pre-trip orientation that covers specific safety considerations.

At Gebirah Missions, we strive to offer the highest quality and most effective Catholic mission trips available. While we do everything possible to ensure a safe mission experience, please remember that no location is entirely risk-free.

If you have any specific safety concerns, feel free to reach out to us at gebirah@charis-singapore.org.
